CNN —A member of the crew working on the upcoming Marvel series “Wonder Man” died Tuesday following an accident on set, according to a statement from Marvel Studios. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident,” the studio said in a statement to CNN. The crew member, identified by the LA County Medical Examiner’s office as 41-year-old Juan Carlos Osorio of Temple City, California, was reportedly a rigger who fell from rafters. No foul play is suspected and the death investigation is ongoing, Miller said. “Wonder Man” was set to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, an actor who had appeared in “Aquaman” and HBO’s “Watchmen.” Wonder Man is a lesser-known Marvel character first introduced in the ’60s.

STUDIO CITY, Calif. (AP) — A crewmember who was working on the Marvel Studios series “Wonder Man” died following an accident on set Tuesday morning at CBS Radford Studios in Studio City. The man, whose name was not made public, was a rigger who fell from the rafters, according to the trade publication Deadline, which first reported the news. Matthew D. Loeb, president of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, said the labor union was shocked and saddened. Those numbers were derived by combing through data from workplace and aviation safety investigations, court records and news accounts. Filming is set to begin next month on “Wonder Man,” which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and was delayed by last year’s dual Hollywood strikes.

CLOSE THE BORDER!”Peter Bergen CNNTrump is already in general election mode and he knows that the southern border is a weak spot for President Joe Biden. Strangely, we aren’t hearing stories of terror attacks across the US by people who infiltrated the southern border. Yet no one is calling to build a wall across the Canadian border because of concerns that terrorists are pouring in across America’s northern border. The scaremongering about terrorists pouring across the southern border also misstates where the terrorist threat in the US largely emanates from. When it comes to acts of terrorism, it might behoove Trump to take a careful look in the mirror instead of misdirecting attention to the southern border.

I'm fucking done," she told a reporter at Time, who described Wolfe Herd as "blinking back tears" during the interview. "My hands are tied," Wolfe Herd told the audience, according to several people who were in the room. Wolfe Herd once called him her biggest mentor, saying, "He's become my family and one of my best friends." Some early employees said they only found out about the shadow-equity program, and who received it, years later. Based on the current share price, Wolfe Herd is no longer a billionaire, though her fortune still sits at an estimated $627 million.

Details of how the Taliban intend to expand and manage mass surveillance, including obtaining the U.S. plan, have not been previously reported. "At the present we are working on a Kabul security map, which is (being completed) by security experts and (is taking) lots of time," he said. The Taliban strongly denies that an upgraded surveillance system would breach the rights of Afghans. A July U.N. monitoring report said there were up to 6,000 Islamic State fighters and their family members in Afghanistan. The Afghan "home base" locations of Islamic State fighters are in the eastern mountainous areas, said Schroden.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Afghanistan is the world’s fastest-growing maker of methamphetamine, a report from the United Nations drug agency said Sunday. The report called Afghanistan’s meth manufacturing a growing threat to national and regional health and security because it could disrupt the synthetic drug market and fuel addiction. It said seizures of meth suspected to have come from Afghanistan have been reported from the European Union and east Africa. Afghanistan also has the ephedra plant, which is not found in the biggest meth-producing countries: Myanmar and Mexico. But you need a lot of it.”Me said it was too early to assess what impact the Taliban’s drug crackdown has had on meth supplies.

On the night that the Pulse nightclub in Orlando was attacked by a gunman with a high-capacity rifle, Jorshua Hernández spent three hours bleeding in a bathroom stall, unable to find his way to an exit. Another patron, Javier Nava, saw a ladder suspended from the ceiling and thought it could help him escape to the roof. But the ladder led only to a loft-style office, where he was trapped with a bullet wound in his abdomen. “If they had more doors, one could survive and there wouldn’t be so many dead,” Mr. Hernández, 29, said. Both the club owner and city officials said that the facility had sufficient exits and complied with all required building regulations.

Here's an exclusive look at the Notion document used by the startup during its fundraising process. Although fundraising in the creator economy has slowed over the last several quarters, Schwartz sees Whop as a pivot in the space. "Historically, the creator economy, at least up until maybe a year and a half ago, has been pictures and text content," Schwartz said. Instead of creating a fancy pitch deck to send off to investors, Whop's team built a deck using productivity software Notion. Check out the Notion document Whop used to raise its $17 million Series A:Note: The document Whop shared with Insider includes several redactions.

A wild Sweet 16 battle between Michigan State and Kansas State was tied at 92 in overtime when Wildcats guard Markquis Nowell took an inbounds pass, turned to a crowd where NBA legend Isiah Thomas and former Spartans star Mateen Cleaves were sitting and said: “Watch this.”Nowell dribbled the ball upcourt and crossed the half-court line. Then he paused and appeared to have an argument with his coach, Jerome Tang, on the sidelines. Nowell gestured angrily. Tang gestured back—but if you looked carefully, Tang also appeared to be signaling toward the basket with one arm.

The tech industry has now lost an entire generation of trailblazing women leaders and replaced them mostly with men. And in the wake of the pandemic, women leaders in corporate America more broadly are more likely than ever to quit, according to the most recent Women in the Workplace report from McKinsey & Company and LeanIn.Org. Now that she’s departing, Big Tech is facing a new reckoning over its failure to promote and support women leaders, and what this could mean for the next generation of women in the industry. “Without women in the C-suite who have come before them, it could make this transition period tougher for next generation women leaders,” Kray said. “I think that what she achieved and what she modeled will be something that will live on beyond the fact that now we don’t have a female Big Tech CEO.”
“Death of a Salesman” actor Wendell Pierce, “The Piano Lesson” director LaTanya Richardson Jackson and “Till” star John Douglas Thompson are among the honorees set for the inaugural Salute to Broadway presented by the African American Film Critics Association. The event is set for Oct. 17 at The Lambs Club in the heart of Midtown’s theater district. “It’s no secret that some of our greatest actors have come from the stage or have tested their chops on it,” said Gil Robertson, co-founder of AAFCA. Suzan-Lori Parks’ Pulitzer-winning “Topdog/Underdog” — which starred Corey Hawkins and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and was directed by Kenny Leon in its first Broadway revival — is slated for the Spotlight Award. The production, which began previews Sept. 19 and opens Oct. 13 at Ethel Barrymore Theatre, makes Richardson Jackson the first woman to direct a Wilson play on the Main Stem.
A Black teenager in Mississippi has died days after local police shot him in the head outside a discount store, and his relatives are questioning officers’ actions. Police shot Jaheim McMillan, 15, Thursday in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store in Gulfport, the state's second-largest city after Jackson, which lies about 160 miles to the north. Gulfport Police Chief Adam Cooper said an officer engaged an armed suspect, since identified as McMillan, resulting in shots being fired. The officer "has been placed on non-enforcement duties in accordance with procedures," according to the news release from police. McMillan’s family doesn’t believe he was armed, and their supporters are calling for the release of camera footage of the shooting.

Roughly half of those fatally shot by police are white, but Black Americans are fatally shot at a disproportionate rate compared to their representation in the US population. As of December 5, 3,582 white people had been fatally shot since 2015 at a rate of 2.4 per million, whereas 1,892 Black people were fatally shot at a rate of 6 per million per year. The database also comes with a number of other qualifiers — namely, that it tracks only fatal police shootings, not fatal police encounters in general. For instance, the database includes Omar Mateen, the mass shooter who killed 49 people in an Orlando nightclub in 2016 before police fatally shot him. But even when narrowing the data down to fatal police shootings of unarmed people, it shows a similar story as the aggregate data.
